2022 Preston City Mela Festival

This year the Mela programme took on 3 celebrations: Our 25th Mela Anniversary, The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and 20th year anniversary of Preston City Status awarded in the Golden Jubilee Year. 

With these 3 celebrations it was only fitting the Mela returned to Avenham Park with a bigger artistic programme and become the City’s main anchor celebration event for the Platinum Jubilee Weekend. 

The Mela programme timing for performances was also extended and the weather played its part in bring out people to the event in there 1000s. The Mela traditional artistic content was enhance to include art forms that represent the Commonwealth and the diverse British Culture 

Mela programme included:

  • 91 Performing artists [ 35 Dance artists and 56 Musicians]
  • 13 Workshop artists 
  • 6 Henna artists
  • 22 Community Organisation 
  • 6 Catering Stalls 
  • 10 Volunteers 
  • 15 Stewards

Mela had over 70 VIP guests and to mark the occasion we had 3 cakes to represent the 3 celebrations, and these were cut by the Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire: The Mayor of Preston and the Art’s Council of England Representative
